The campsite is open from the end of March to the end of October, as are the glamping tents and other rental accommodations. However, Midgaard Holiday Home is open all year round.

Can I drive my car onto the campsite?

Cars are only permitted on the campsite upon arrival and departure (loading and unloading). Upon arrival, you can first unload your luggage and then park your car in the campsite's central car park (paid) or in a free public car park just outside the campsite (about 150 metres from the reception).

How sustainable is the campsite?

In 2025, we obtained the Green Key Gold certificate. This is the highest recognition for sustainable entrepreneurship in the recreation sector. It means that we use energy, water and waste consciously and care about nature, people and the environment.

Can I get to the campsite without a car?

Yes, the bus from the ferry terminal (line 2) stops in front of the campsite, or you can hire a bicycle at the ferry terminal. There are also taxis from the ferry terminal to the campsite. Your luggage is no problem either. You can use our luggage service from Holwerd or the luggage service provided by the bicycle hire company.

May I wash my caravan/motorhome?

No, in order to conserve water, this is not permitted.

Do I need to book a camping pitch in advance?

Yes, we recommend it. Popular camping pitches are quickly booked up, especially at weekends and during school holidays. By booking in advance, you are guaranteed a camping pitch that suits your needs.

Which beach on Ameland is the most beautiful?

That is a matter of taste. Many guests love the wide, quiet beaches at Hollum and Ballum. Others prefer the livelier beach areas at Nes or Buren. Thanks to the variety of beaches, everyone can find their personal favourite.

How much does it cost to park in the campsite car park?

In 2026, parking at the central car park costs €5.15 per car per day in the low season, €6.60 in the mid season (from 30 June to 9 July and from 25 August to 1 September), and €7.25 in the high season (from 9 July to 25 August).

Do I need to book the ferry to Ameland in advance?

Yes, especially during holidays and weekends, it is advised to book in advance via Wagenborg Passenger Services.

What is the luggage service?

You drop off your luggage in Holwerd (near the feryy); we will take it to your campsite or accommodation on Ameland. It is also possible to take your luggage on board yourself and hand it in at the bicycle rental company (provided you have rented a bicycle there), and the bicycle rental company will then take your luggage to the campsite. Yes, there is a snack bar, canteen and terrace. The supermarket also offers a variety of hot dishes, including fresh pizzas (also available in vegan options). Right next to the campsite, you will find the Bravo restaurant and Sjoerd beach pavilion. There are also several restaurants in Nes.

Can I barbecue at my tent or accommodation?

Yes, you may, provided that the barbecue is used safely and no open fire is created. Gas or electric barbecues are preferred. Ensure that the barbecue is off the ground and that a bucket of water is always available nearby. Barbecuing is prohibited in strong winds or when there is a general ban on fires.

Are visitors permitted?

Visitors are welcome, provided they report to reception. Regular rates apply for overnight stays.

Is the use of the shower and hot water free of charge?

The use of the shower and hot water is not free of charge; you need to use a water card for this. You can obtain this card at reception and use it to activate the showers. The shower time is set to five minutes and costs €1.20, so that we can save water and energy together. For washing dishes, you pay €0.50 for 5 minutes. You can also top up your water card at reception.

I have credit left on my water card. Can I get this back?

Yes, when you leave, return the card and you will receive your €5 deposit and any remaining credit back via card payment.

What are the quiet hours at the campsite?

From 23:00 to 7:00 We ask everyone to respect the quiet hours during this time.

What happens to waste?

We carefully separate waste. Use the containers for residual waste, paper, and glass. Take bulky household waste to the yellow container near the shed. You do not need to separate plastic; this is done at the waste processing plant.

Where can I dispose of chemical toilet waste or grey water?

There is a chemical toilet at every sanitary block, and there is also a motorhome service station at field B in front of the toilet block.

No, washing costs €8.50 and drying €5. You can use the same card that you also use for the showers. Topping up the card can easily be done at the reception.

Yes, it is possible to have your mail delivered to the reception. At the entrance of the reception we have mailboxes, where you can also have your parcels delivered. This is entirely at your own risk, as parcels are not signed for upon delivery.

Gas bottles are available at the campsite. You can head to the reception for this. The cost of a gas bottle varies depending on the size; you can enquire about this at the reception desk.

Is there a skip for bulky waste?

There is a yellow skip located near the warehouse for bulky household waste and wood. This is intended for small quantities of waste only. Do you have larger items of bulky waste or wood? If so, please take these yourself to the local council's waste disposal site (recycling centre) of the Municipality of Ameland.
