What is there to do for children on Ameland?

1. Seal spotting on the Wadden Sea
During a seal tour, you get the chance to see seals from up close. A boat takes you onto the Wadden Sea, where the seals often lie resting on the sandbanks. A true adventure for children (and parents)!

2. A visit to the climbing park
The climbing park in De Vleijen is a challenging activity for the whole family. There are two height courses, three and six metres high, where you will encounter various obstacles. For real daredevils, there is also a free fall of no less than nine metres high!

3. Blokarting on the beach
Feel the wind in your hair and speed along. Blokarting involves riding in a three-wheeled buggy with a sail across the beach, with the wind propelling you forward. You can reach speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour while blokarting. A great activity for speed demons!

4. Climbing the lighthouse
The climb up the 236 steps is definitely worth the view. From the top of the Ameland Lighthouse, you can see the entire island. In good weather, you can even see the mainland and Terschelling. In addition, there are various exhibitions to admire on each floor of the lighthouse.

5. Swimming in the indoor pool
Have you had enough of swimming in the sea? Then why not visit the indoor pool on Ameland in Buren. This pool is heated and has a fun slide!

6. An afternoon of fishing
Just past the village of Buren, you will find the 't Nijlân fishing ponds. Here, you can fish in a trout pond or in a natural pond with large fish species, such as catfish and pike. At the fishing ponds, you will also find a shop where you can buy Ameland products.

7. Horse riding through nature
Take your child out on horseback or pony and discover Ameland in a unique way. When you go horse riding on Ameland, you will see places that you often cannot reach by bike or on foot. Enjoy the fresh sea air and experience an unforgettable adventure together.
8. A round of indoor adventure golf
If the weather isn't so good, this is the ideal activity. The indoor adventure golf course is located in the centre of Buren, within cycling distance of Duinoord. You step into an underwater world and play 18 challenging holes.

Skating or cycling on the pump track
In 2025, a brand new pump track will open in Hollum. A pump track is a circuit with bumps and curves, which has an asphalt surface. The track is suitable for all cycling and skating sports. The pump track is freely accessible to everyone.

10. Walking the barefoot path
A unique walk designed to immerse you in nature, barefoot. The barefoot path consists of different surfaces and obstacles. The path is located near the Nature Museum. You can easily combine the barefoot path with a visit to the museum.
