Green Key Gold at Strandcamping Duinoord
Strandcamping Duinoord has once again been awarded the Green Key Gold certificate in 2026. Our measures in areas such as energy, water, waste and the environment have been assessed against the Green Key criteria.

What is Green Key?
Green Key is a certification programme within the tourism and leisure sector. Certified businesses must meet criteria across various areas.
Our Green Key certification makes our efforts verifiable. The certificate does not mean that every aspect of Strandcamping Duinoord is automatically sustainable or environmentally friendly. It demonstrates that our site meets the requirements of the Green Key certification.

What does Green Key Gold mean?
Green Key has different levels. Strandcamping Duinoord has achieved the highest level: Gold.
For you as a guest, this means that our measures are assessed against the Green Key criteria. This means that our efforts are not only described by us, but also independently verified. We’d be happy to show you specifically what measures you’ll encounter at Strandcamping Duinoord.
What measures are we taking at the campsite?
Reducing energy and water consumption
- There are charging points for electric cars at the campsite.
- The roof of our shed is fitted with solar panels which we use to generate electricity.
- We use energy-efficient LED lighting and sensors in various locations around the campsite.
- Taps and showers are fitted with water-saving mechanisms, without compromising on comfort.
- Monthly checks help us to quickly detect any water leaks.
- Our wooden lighting posts are powered entirely by solar energy.
- We have switched from gas tumble dryers to electric ones.
Less waste and smart recycling
- Thanks to our partnership with Too Good To Go, products that might otherwise go unsold are given a new purpose.
- We donate eligible food to the Food Bank. In this way, we help prevent food waste.
- We collect returnable bottles at the entrance to the main building. The proceeds go to charity.
- By collecting waste centrally, there are fewer journeys by refuse lorries on the campsite grounds.
- There are various bins on our site for separating general waste, glass and paper. Clear pictograms indicate which waste belongs in which bin. Unfortunately, there are not (yet) any facilities on Ameland for separating plastic, for example.
Products and procurement
- Paper products such as printing paper and toilet paper carry an eco-label (such as the EU Ecolabel).
- Various cleaning products that we use on a daily basis also carry an eco-label.
- Our supermarket stocks a wide range of local products.
- We also offer an extensive range including organic, gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian products.
- Where possible, we use electric appliances, such as our electric lawnmower.
Nature conservation and education
- Our campsite is situated in the heart of the Ameland dunes. We take this environment into account in the way we manage the site.
- During our nature walks, you’ll discover more about Ameland’s flora and fauna.
Collaboration
- We are advised by Green Label Service, a specialist in sustainability within the hospitality sector. They advise us on achievable and measurable measures relating to, amongst other things, energy, water, waste and social engagement.
- At our campsite, you’ll find Kiewiet bike rental. This makes it easy to hire a bike to explore Ameland. In our communications, we encourage guests to leave their cars at home more often and explore Ameland by bike.
- We work in partnership with Staatsbosbeheer. For every review we receive, we donate a sum to Staatsbosbeheer. This money is used to plant trees and enhance nature on Ameland.
Our measures are assessed
A key aspect of Green Key is that it is not just about what a campsite says about itself. Our campsite is assessed against the Green Key criteria. This provides us with an external assessment of the measures that form part of the certification.
In 2026, Strandcamping Duinoord once again achieved Green Key Gold status.
How will you notice this during your stay?
Many of our measures are part and parcel of your stay, without you having to do anything extra. For example, we monitor our water and energy usage and make operational decisions that are in line with our Green Key approach. We believe it’s important that you simply enjoy a relaxing holiday, without compromising on convenience and comfort.
