Autumn break on Ameland

The autumn break on Ameland is one to enjoy with your family. With the summer crowds gone, the island takes on a peaceful and adventurous atmosphere. Your children can run through the dunes, build huts from driftwood and enjoy the fresh air on the beach. You can enjoy the fresh sea air, the beautiful autumn colours and the animals preparing for winter.

Camping in autumn is a bit cooler, but that's what makes it so special. And when the sun comes out, it's even more enjoyable! After a day outdoors, you can snuggle up together in your tent, caravan or camper van, cosy and with the sound of the sea in the background.

A traditional autumn activity on Ameland

In the past, the inhabitants of Ameland lived in harmony with the seasons and ate what the sea and nature provided. In autumn, that meant shrimp. Around the autumn holidays, they are large enough to catch, which is why shrimp fishing has been a traditional autumn activity on Ameland for generations. You can still experience this tradition today, together with the whole family.

Shrimping is easy and fun to do. Put on your rainboots, grab a scoop net and a bucket, and head into the North Sea at low tide. Gently drag the net along the seabed in front of you, walk a little, check your catch, and put the shrimp in your bucket. Back at your accommodation, rinse the shrimp clean and boil them briefly in salted water. Then they are ready to peel and taste together. It doesn't get any fresher than this!

Cranberries from Ameland

Ameland cranberries are picked in autumn and used in local dishes and drinks. For example, cranberry sauce with steak or a liqueur made from cranberries will give your holiday that little bit extra.

Would you rather take the taste of Ameland home with you? During this season, you will find various products made with these delicious Ameland cranberries in one of the cosy village shops. A fun and original souvenir to take home or give as a gift.c
