There are several bike hire companies on Ameland, including in Hollum, Nes and Buren. You can easily hire a bike that suits your plans, from standard bikes to e-bikes and children’s bikes.

Cycling routes on Ameland
On Ameland, you’ll cycle through a varied landscape of dunes, forests and villages. Thanks to clearly signposted routes, it’s easy to discover the island at your own pace.

Ameland Route – approx. 45 km
A classic route that takes you around the entire island. You’ll cycle past dunes, forests and polders, passing through all four villages. Ideal if you want to experience the whole island in one day.
Art Route – approx. 35 km
This route combines nature and culture. Along the way, you’ll discover artworks, stories and unique natural areas that make the island so special.
Oerderduinen Route – approx. 25 km
Perfect for those seeking peace and nature. You’ll cycle past the nature reserve “Het Oerd”, with views over the Wadden Sea and rare flora and fauna.
Mountain biking on Ameland
Are you a keen mountain biker? The dunes of Ameland offer fantastic trails where you can really challenge yourself. With surprisingly steep climbs and strong coastal winds, you’ll definitely be put to the test.
Every year in March, the MTB Ameland event takes place, a mountain biking event across the island’s rugged landscape, over the beach, through the dunes and along forests and paths that are normally not accessible.
