Traditional Day Ameland

Experience the charm of old times during the Traditional Day in Ballum. Stroll through the atmospheric village centre and see old crafts come to life. A fun and educational day for the whole family.

A day full of crafts and history

During the Traditional Day, the centre of Ballum is transformed into a lively open-air setting. Residents and volunteers wear traditional costumes from the first half of the last century and give demonstrations of crafts that coloured the island. You can watch wool spinning, basket weaving and clog making, for example. Everywhere you look, you will find small demonstrations showing what daily life used to be like.

Discover the crafts of the past in Ballum

For those who like to look around at their leisure and enjoy craftsmanship, this is a special moment to experience the culture of Ameland. Children learn in a playful way how crafts used to work and discover materials they may never have seen before.

Cosy atmosphere with music and local products

In the village, you will find stalls with local products and handmade items. You can taste and discover local delicacies, meet islanders and enjoy music performances that give the day a relaxed atmosphere. There is plenty of space to wander around and strike up conversations with islanders who are happy to tell you all about their craft. For children, there are activities that make the day varied and enjoyable for the whole family.
