Art Month Ameland

During Ameland Art Month, the island is transformed into a large open-air museum every year. In November, artists from the Netherlands and abroad display their work at special locations throughout Ameland. Galleries, churches, barns and unexpected places form the backdrop for contemporary art.

Cultural highlight in November

Ameland Art Month is an annual international event that presents art in the broadest sense of the word throughout the month of November. Art and nature go hand in hand: the sea forms the boundary, and the landscape also offers a unique backdrop for art in public spaces. Exhibitions take place in all four villages - Nes, Buren, Ballum and Hollum - as well as at outdoor locations in the dunes, forests, mudflats and along the beach.

All forms of art

A diverse group of artists from Scandinavia, Germany and the Netherlands present work in various disciplines: painting, sculpture, photography, video art, ceramics, glass art, mixed media, textiles and more, from realistic to abstract.

In addition to the works on display, there are workshops, lectures, guided tours, literary evenings, film and music programmes. For these activities you can order tickets in advance via this link.

A quiet month on Ameland

November is a quiet period on Ameland. That is precisely what makes Art Month so special. You can experience the island in peace and quiet, with space for attention and inspiration. Many visitors combine a day of art with a walk on the beach or a visit to one of the villages.
