Nes is perhaps the liveliest and most atmospheric village on Ameland. The charming streets with old commanders' houses, cosy terraces and shops make Nes a wonderful place to stroll through. From Strandcamping Duinoord, located just outside Nes, you can easily walk or cycle there.

Our campsite is ideally located: in the middle of the dunes, right by the sea and a short distance from Nes. This means you can walk or cycle to the village for a drink on a terrace, an ice cream or a fun activity. But it's just as easy to walk straight from your tent or chalet onto the beach or into the dunes. The perfect combination of peace, nature and conviviality.

Nes is bursting with stories. Admire the characteristic commanders' houses that recall the days of whaling, and visit the Ameland Culture Museum, where a permanent exhibition brings Ameland's religious heritage and rich history to life. Or stroll past the old church and soak up the atmosphere of its rich past.

One place you should definitely not miss in Nes is the Nature Centre. You literally cannot miss it: in front of the entrance is an impressive, life-size replica of a young blue whale, a real eye-catcher. Inside, you will discover much more about the nature of Ameland, from interactive exhibitions to aquariums full of Wadden Sea life. For children, the barefoot path is a great adventure. An educational and fun outing for the whole family.

Nes is bustling with activity all year round. In summer, there is a lively market every week, and events such as the Rôggefeest or Horizontoer bring the village to life. It's just a stone's throw from the campsite, ideal for a day filled with music, street theatre and local delicacies.
Nes is also a great place to browse unique boutiques and shops. From souvenirs and local art to clothing and unique gifts, you will always find something special to take home with you. In between, stop by one of the many cosy cafés or restaurants. Here you can enjoy fresh fish, regional dishes and authentic Frisian delicacies.

Even when the sun goes down, Nes remains a lively place. The bars and pubs are open late for drinks, live music and a relaxed island atmosphere. It's the perfect way to end a day on Ameland in style.

Our campsite is 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Nes. You can easily walk or cycle there.
From culture and shopping to good food, markets and events, Nes has it all. You can also sit on a terrace and watch the world go by.
Certainly! A visit to the Nature Centre with its barefoot path is always a success. You can also explore Nes with a photo treasure hunt (available from the VVV tourist office). In addition, there are plenty of places to get an ice cream or find a playground.
Absolutely! The village is a little quieter then, but just as charming. Many shops and restaurants are open all year round.
