History and culture in Hollum
Hollum is a historic village on Ameland. The atmosphere of the past is still tangible here, with narrow cobbled streets, old commanders' houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, and unique museums.
Visit the Sorgdrager Cultural History Museum for a glimpse into the lives of the Amelanders through the centuries. Or discover the Abraham Fock Lifeboat Museum, where you can learn all about the heroic rescue operations at sea. Several times a season, demonstrations are given here of the historic lifeboat, pulled by a team of horses. These impressive events are made possible entirely by volunteers.
And of course, there is the pride of Hollum: the Ameland Lighthouse. This 55-metre-high tower is not only photogenic, but also offers spectacular views of the dunes, beach and mudflats from the top.
Nature & adventure around Hollum
Hollum is located close to beautiful nature reserves. Walk or cycle through the dunes, the forest or towards Het Oerd nature reserve on the east side of Ameland and be surprised by the varied landscape. The beach is never far away either: ideal for a relaxing walk or picnic with a view of the North Sea.
